The Cultural Centre and The Gallery of Contemporary Art in Pancevo are the organizers of the 13th Biennial of Art which is planned to be opened on 13th September 2008 with a concert of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Mr. Stephen Gunzenhauser and Mr. Marcelo Nisinman as a soloist around the industrial complex of HIP Petrohemija. The programme of the Biennial will last till October 20th 2008.

13th Biennial of Art "Pure expression", Pancevo 2008

The theme of the 12th Biennial of Art held in Pancevo in 2006 was "Protection of Nature" and it was determined by the work and importance of Joseph Beuys, one of the 20th century's greatest artists. Joseph Beuys's work was certainly an excellent reminder of engaged anthropological importance of that work and its influence on the art scene.

The theme of this year's Biennial of Art - an international event which has refreshed its structure exploring not only visual arts but also structures of artistic achievements in the field of film and theatre - corresponds to researches on the level of pure artistic expression and language. The theme of this year's Biennial, Pure expression, is in a slight agreement with Protection of Nature, the theme of the 12th Biennial of Art, which is at the same time the beginning of the reflection about pure, simple and above all clear artistic expression, language, work, engagement... of course it is also opposite to the given theme: unclear, complicated, impure, complex also represents the possibility to determine not only artistic but also abstract activities related to pure artistic expression.
